Research

I completed my PhD titled "Can Therapists Estimate Current Patient Progress and Predict Final Outcomes with the Provision of Feedback?" in 2017. The primary findings were that therapists can be overly optimistic regarding how well their patients are going. As such, it is important for therapists such as myself to use more objective measures to determine patient progress and outcomes. What I mean by objective measures are things like self-report questionnaires (e.g., the DASS-21 that your GP will ask you to complete if you are on a Mental Health Treatment Plan). It is useful to discuss the results of self-report questionnaires I give to you in order to understand your answers more clearly, so that I can support you as best I can. In fact, research shows that discussing your questionnaire results with you can improve your overall outcomes.
